Themes and Screen Saver

Thanks to my good friend Aaron (proprietor of Disney ClipArt and other fine WebSites) who managed to play with the files and trim these suckers down considerably. Each theme is now under three megs - an easily accomplished download for just about anyone.

As promised, it's finally here!!! Now you can completely Jungle Cruise-ify your Windows95 and even Windows98 computers (sorry, Mac users) annoy your family and friends, and re-live those glorious days of Skippering. It's easy! Well, okay, it's accomplishable. Well...oh, just pay attention to the directions and you'll be fine!

Themes

What you need:

  • A Computer.
  • Windows95 or Windows98 (I checked - it works on both)
  • WinZip (highly recommended and available here) or similar unzipping software.
  • Microsoft Plus! for your operating system or
  • A similar desktop theme program such as the aptly-named Desktop Themes from Left Side Software available here.
  • One of the following two hand-created-by-yours-truly .zip files:

For those of you who would enjoy the Disneyland Version, choose "dljungle.zip."

For those of you who would like a Walt Disney World Version, choose "wdwjungl.zip."

If you'd like our Neighbor's Pirates of the Carribean theme, choose "pirates11.zip." Special Thanks to Dan Ireland for letting us post this one here.

Here comes the hard part:

  • When you click on one of those two links, your friendly computer will ask you if you wish to save the file or open it from its location. Please choose 'Save this file to disk' and click 'OK' (Netscape users - when you click, simply choose 'Save File' from the four selections).
  • Then your computer will ask you where to save the file. Desktop is always a nice choice, because the file is easy to find after closing the browser. This is often the default.  If not, you may click on the top window of the download dialog box (English, Doc, English!) and use your up arrow key to choose it. Then click Save.
  • Now make yourself a cup of coffee, a sandwich, or similar refreshment. Even though these new and improved themes are only  two and one-half megabytes in size, they still may take a while to download, especially if you still run a 28.8 or (Heaven forbid) a 14.4 modem. See you in a few.
  • Still waiting.
  • Okay. Now close the browser (you may want to print this page first if you feel you need to).
  • Find the file you downloaded (dljungle.zip or wdwjungl.zip) and extract (unzip) it into one of the following: c:\program files\plus!\themes if you have Microsoft Plus! or c:\themes if you don't. Consult your unzipping software for further instructions. If the computer asks you if you want to overwrite files, it really doesn't matter which you pick, but Yes to all is easiest.
  • Now open Windows Explorer and move the file zoom.scr from c:\program files\plus!\themes or c:\themes to c:\windows\system (this step is not actually all that important because we'll replace that screen saver later. The Jungle Cruise Screen Saver doesn't theme well because it needs to be installed separately, which is why is isn't included in the .zip file).
  • If you have performed these delicate operations precisely, you should now be able to go to the Control Panel or your alternate Desktop Theme program and choose the Jungle Cruise (or Pirates) theme. Good luck!

Screen Saver

What you need:

  • A Computer

  • This file: jcsetup.exe

  • Note: This will work even if you don't have the rest of the stuff listed for themes, in fact, it works without themes altogether.

Here comes the hard part:

  • When you click on this link, your friendly computer will ask you if you wish to save the file or open it from its location.
Kick your shoes off. Get comfortable. Or, better yet, go do something constructive. You see, this file is about six and one-quarter megabytes in size. It will take a while to download, especially if you still run a 28.8 or (Heaven forbid) a 14.4 modem. See you in a few.
  • Still waiting.
  • Yet still waiting.
  • Okay. Now close the browser (you may want to print this page first if you feel you need to).
  • Find the file you downloaded and double click on it.
  • That's it! (The screen saver is easier).
